Glass Mastering
The process of creating a mold for CD and DVD replication. It is a very precise science carried out in a super-clean environment, and involves many steps:
1. A glass disk is coated with a photo resist layer that is then baked on.
2. The photo resist coating is then removed by precision lasers, creating data “pits”
3. After additional coatings, this glass master is used to create metallic stamper molds.
4. The final “father molds” are used to press polycarbonate “plastics” into the final CD or DVD disc.
